South Africa is a melting pot of cultures and a country whose beauty is beyond comprehension. The locals are spoiled for choice when it comes to adventure activities. Here are some ideas of adventures.
Discover Robben Island
Robben Island, located off the coast of Cape Town in Table Bay, is not so much a scenic place to explore as a historical place to learn about South Africa’s apartheid past. For years, political prisoners on this island were held in various prison buildings. The most famous prisoner ever held here was Nelson Mandela, the future president of South Africa.
Explore the Cango Caves
These spectacular caves are located at the foot of the Swartberg Mountains, a 25-minute drive from the Western Cape town of Oudshoorn. You have the choice between two circuits, the “standard circuit” and the “adventure circuit”, the latter we highly recommend! You will be amazed by the incredible rock formations, stalagmites and stalactites as well as ancient bushman paintings. It is one of the most unique attractions in the worldAfrica from South.
See penguins at Boulders Beach
And enjoy the breathtaking scenery (including baboons and zebras) at the Cape of Good Hope. If you associate penguins with cold, you may be surprised to learn that there is a large colony of penguins Africa (also called gentoo penguins because of their donkey-like braying) who live on the beach about an hour south of Cape Town.
